When I review the 'Youth Leadership' interviews' notes again, I realize the 'passion' Andrews has highlighted is indeed about whose agenda and whose priority. People learn when they are interested. Andrews mentions he waits till the issue comes up and then deals with it. When people are not passionate about the issues, any good work is likely to work ‘for’ people with ‘ideas’ and impediment to empowerment. When I engage with your agenda that you are passionate about, I have better opportunity to see what you see and if I listen deliberately and respond to you, we build a common understanding and shared agenda. Building a shared agenda based on people’s passion is the first step for collective action. It requires a love that respects and supports others to do what they love in a constructive way. It is the most important as well as the most difficult part of the work. I am still in the process to hold my agenda and fight against all kinds of bureaucracy to find a space to build a shared agenda with people.
